This set has one coin.
The King George VI 1 Rupee Nickel Coin represents an important moment in British India’s coinage history. During the Second World War, shortages and rising costs of silver led to changes in the composition of Indian coins, eventually resulting in the introduction of nickel for the rupee.
Featuring the crowned portrait of King George VI on one side and an Indian tiger with the denomination in English, Hindi and Urdu on the other, this coin was the last British Indian rupee issued for circulation. It is especially interesting to collectors because it belongs to the period immediately surrounding India’s Independence in 1947.
A fascinating addition to any British India, pre-independence, or vintage coin collection.
